Sisterly Love

"I can promise you that women working together - linked, informed and educated - can bring peace and prosperity to this forsaken planet." -Isabel Allende

There are a handful of things that get me worked up in life on a daily basis. Inconsiderate drivers, feeling rushed, anything involving family... you know, the little things that really grind your gears.

Then there are the things that make my heart hurt, the moments that make me sick when I see them. At the top of my list is women hurting one another. For some reason we have the ability to inflict so much damage on our sisters. With a judgmental look, harsh words, or actions of betrayal women chip away at each other daily. I have had my fair share of boys who were careless with my feelings but I can say with confidence that some of the most painful encounters I have ever had were with women.

Why, why why????

Why do we do this to each other? We were created to work together and love one another. No wonder so many of us look to men to pick us up, we were knocked down by our own gender! Women are powerful and influential but if we continue to tear each other down we will be too wounded to ever make a difference in this world.

The solution to the problem lies in every one of us facing one of our biggest enemies, insecurity.

I cant count how many times I have caught myself saying something incredibly nasty towards another girl. And everyone knows that girl fights are dirty, there are no rules, every hit is under the belt. We use words like "whore" "bitch" "fat" "ugly" "stupid" we attack her identity directly. I'm preaching to the choir here when I say it's hurtful and it needs to stop.

We are capable of so much more!!!

The amazing thing about women is as much as we have the ability to hurt each other we also have the power to heal. There is something about a woman who knows who she is and lifts up others with her words, even her touch. In times of hurt and confusion a hug from one of the many incredible women in my life has the power to settle my heart. Just imagine with me for a moment that every woman was this woman, she is loving, she is kind, compassionate, she listens and speaks when you need her to, she is everything she was created to be. God made woman in His image and there are attributes in us that this world needs. This hurting world needs mothers, sisters, friends, mentors, lovers... this world needs women operating at their full potential. You are needed and you are more valuable than can ever be expressed.

Next time you have the opportunity to speak into another woman's life think about her heart and how what you are saying is going to make her feel. Its time for us to band together and work as a team. Its time for us to love each other as sisters and see that as a group we are far more powerful than alone.
